Länsi Kalkkuna held 2 commercial growers meetings in Finland on the 1st of October in Seinäjoki and the 3rd of October in Loimaa. The group invited Peter Hunt (Management Specialist at Aviagen® Turkeys Ltd) to present about management techniques for growing commercial turkeys.

The meetings were informative and conversational and farmers received new information on feed physical quality, comparative commercial results, ventilation, brooder set up, litter management and lighting programs.

During Peter’s visit he was invited to visit their hatchery in Jalasjärvi, Finland to observe a B.U.T. Premium hatch and discuss the SPIDES process which is resulting in improved hatchability of stored eggs for their company. Additional visits to a B.U.T. Premium parent stock farm in Närpiö and commercial growing farms in the North and South of Finland were made which is an important part of our technical support to our customers.

The demand for poultry meat in Finland is increasing and by working closely with the producers to understand challenges of the Finnish climate and providing advice and solutions, improvements in performance are increasing. The benefit of meetings at breeder, commercial and hatchery level is that a crossover of information is enhancing performance and improving productivity and competitiveness of Finnish turkey production.

Sirkka Karikko (Primary Production Manager) commented “The close relationship that exists between the two companies is very important for the transfer of knowledge and brings benefits to both parties.”
