Aviagen Turkeys prepares for Brexit

Aviagen® Turkeys is preparing for the changes in procedures that will take place following Brexit which begins at midnight on December 31st 2020. Aviagen Turkeys responded to a call from the French Customs seeking companies to trial a new full-scale smart border system to be prepared for the new systems. To maintain the uninterrupted flow of traffic, customs are working towards the "smart border", a device based on anticipating customs formalities before boarding.

On October 29th 2020, the port of Roscoff in Brittany hosted the test and Brittany Ferries’s Pont Aven ferry from Plymouth docked, carrying a truck of parent hatching eggs going to France.

The documents were registered in the U.K. and the crossing time allowed customs to carry out initial checks, directing the flow on arrival to either a green line for all those who have no control to be carried out, or an orange line when customs or health controls (animals or plants) are necessary. Before disembarking, the drivers are informed by SMS of which line to take.

We were satisfied with the test run and we are happy to have contributed to the testing of administrative procedures in order to avoid customs traffic jams. Aviagen Turkeys and our partners are committed to the operating the new procedures and ensuring deliveries to customers are as efficient after Brexit as before.
